8 days until I turn 30, and happy halloween

well halloween was a productive day, I sent a print off to redux for their december fundraiser, I found out last night that I have been given a full fellowship to the vermont studio center for next fall, and I got to see several other grad students unveil their works for the graduate review that is going on right now, included in the review are owen premore, who's ancient and tribal art is seen here being played by an ancient and tribal artist named stan welsh, julia bradshaw's tissue blowing project was also being reviewed, also some amazing work by andy muonio was on display, and one of the funniest pieces was carlos castellanos' shock the frog exhibit, which is actually called flesh server, where the viewer can control a server that is embedded in a dissected frog. In case you can't tell I have hyperlinked everyones name above so you can see samples of their work or where possible the work being reviewed. ahh the life of an MFA candidate never a dull moment but never really an engaging one, just one mind numbing experience after another

10 days until I turn 30, a pumpkin, and some shipping problems solved

well here brooke and I stand in the pumpkin patch with our perfect pumpkin

and here is a large object waiting to be weighed , in case you are wondering it weighed 260 lbs

you would think after the first bag didn't fit in the dumpster people would get the clue

an anthropologically accurate jack o latern by brooke

well today I got the final crate weighed and ready for the show, I also put up a static page
regarding the show,
http://www.jonathanbrilliant.com/Rust_never_sleeps.html
it now looks like we will be having a closing reception on january 12th 2007, hope to see ya'll there. yesterday I went to get a pumpkin with brooke, which is the first time i can ever rememeber going to the pumpkin patch to pick out a pumpkin, brooke did an awesome job carving the image of a homo-erectus skull onto our pumpkin, and then proceeded to make a delicious batch of toasted cajun pumpkin seeds. I finally got a new pair of shoes yesterday, but they cut my ankles today so I may have to exchange them or modify them. anyways hope everyone has a happy halloween, it will be my last halloween in my twenties, next week I move into my 30's, but I guess I should be optimistic, marx didn't publish the manifesto until he was thirty, donald judd didn't make a donald judd until he was 36, so things might be getting better, even if i am getting older.

16 days until I turn 30

here is a great looking set of crates

and just the thinnest layer of shellac ensures a stable rust surface

here is a panel with theorists beverley grindstaff, dore bowen and industrial desginer john mcclusky

if you squint hard enough you can see photgrapher brian taylor

well today I turned a major corner with my crating marathon, I should be able to finish up tommorow. after that i caught a panel discussion on theory and practice in art, it raises the age old question, does art influence theory or does theory influence art. Tonight i will finish reading the latest issue of dwell magazine on prefab now, and play with the cat. The life of an MFA candidate never a dull moment

I am not sure how to count down until I turn 30, but for those of you wondering it is on thursday November 9, 30 years old. I feel it after today, I spent all day finishing the crates and stuff for the pieces I finished yesterday, they look alot better now that they are cleaned up. I am really looking forward to this show, just because I won't even get to see it go up, but with any luck I will be there in january for a closing reception and to see my beloved charleston. for those of you who missed it make sure to scroll down a couple entry's and check out my Ipod commercial or better yet click here to view it.

22 days until i turn 30, 48 days until the N.C. show

this is a solar print that is made from a transparency of a scan of a stir stick arrangement.

I got back into the studio today to continue with my crateing marathon, I still have to clean up these two smaller pieces, which are actually made up of equavelant amounts of washers, but welded toghether into two different arrangements, creating two equavelant sculptures. tonight I think we are getting sushi with mom and dad and then we will probably watch fraiser and go to bed at around 10, getting old sucks.

MFA comes down

just a couple of brilliant fuckers de-installing the MFA show

I found this in an elementry school art classroom seems like we could all use these.

here is what the critics are saying about Abandon all hope ye who enter here an MFA thesis show by jonathan david brilliant

"this really makes the argument for you as a neo-conservative"
-Dr. Dore Bowen, art theorist

"this one is a keeper!"
-David Kimball anderson, artist/grandfather

"So, your grad-school experience has been a sort of
three-year tantrum, and this is its final episode?"
