here is zero doing her impersonation of a heart shaped pillow
Today i have to give our notice to the landlord, and then i have to continue cleaning up the studio. Brooke and i made plans to start packing up the apartment this weekend, because in two weeks i have to start cleaning stuff at work. I also have to get the piece packed up and ready for the santa fe show and somewhere in all this we have to get our furniture sold, pack our books, make flight arrangements for the cat etc. On a really exciting note this months art on america arrived and there is a whole section devoted to the art schools, grad programs and their general dysfunction in america. This topic is very near to my heart. The article ,which featured really insightful comments on art school curriculum by dave hickey, james elkins, and robert storr, has completely energized my beliefs about art schools. I was so moved by the article that i have been sharing it with everyone i see who is involved with grad school or thinking about going. One of the main themes that emerges throughout the article is the importance of getting away from obsolete medium specific models of art education. I have railed about this topic over and over again, when we teach people or even encourage artists to be media specific it is the most limiting approach ever. More importantly the article explains what i have always believed, that many of these media specific approaches do more to serve the needs of tenured professors unwilling to learn new skills, approaches or ways of thinking, then they do to serve the needs of students. that is all for now remember tomorrow is a holiday, spider man 3 day.
